Bank Genie User Guide
The Preferences program - BS498

Starting the program
On the Main Menu, click the Transactions tab then click Transaction Analyser - BS408
Screen BS498S01 appears

In this section:

About the Program
The Preferences program allows each user to personalise the system.
Screenshot
This initial screen of the program shows the name of the active User.
The default user is Admin. This User Profile is active when you start Bank Genie after installation.

Changes made in Preferences apply specifically to the active User Profile.
i.e. Preferences are unique for each User.

More User Profiles
You can create an unlimited number of User Profiles - See More User Preferences

About Fonts, Font Sizes and Font Bold
Bank Genie allows you to select your Fonts, Font Sizes. You can also opt to display the font in Bold type.

If you have good eyesight, the system looks best at 8 point.
Screens can be repositioned and resized so that the screen cascade is visible when you run the programs.

When you choose large fonts, you may have to resize to enlarge screens, so that the captions are not truncated
Font Bold may require a slightly larger screen size.

Thus, there is a practical limit to the font size that can be used.
It is a matter of trial and error, depending on the fonts selected.
The system has been designed and tested to 12 point bold for the popular fonts.
If pushing to the limit

  • start a program
  • click in the title bar and drag the screen so that the top left corner is positioned close to the top and close to the left of the available background
  • click in the bottom right of the screen and drag the screen to it maximum width and height
  • when you close the screen, the settings are saved and will be restored next time you use that screen

When screens are maximised, you may lose the cascaded screens effect i.e. when you click a button on screen to go to another, you may not see any of the initial screen.
That is not a problem in regard to program functionality - its simply a visual consideration.

Data list boxes
An exception exists in the case of data listings (data displayed in rows and columns)
In this edition of Bank Genie, the individual columns cannot be resized or moved.
To allow the columns to align with the column headers, non proportional fonts are used for all list boxes. The fixed font in our design (Courier New) overrides the font selection you make in Preferences.
The Preferences you select for Font sizes and Font Bold settings are respected - but in Courier New .

Overriding the Global Font sizes
Do Fonts and fontsizes selected in the Preferences program apply to all screens in the system?
By default, yes, they are global. However, a unique feature in Bank Genie allows you to override the global settings for specific screens.
Again, these exceptions are User Profile specific - User A and User B can have different settings.

Screen sizes vary markedly in the system.
If a screen has only a few fields then (by design) it can be quite small.
If you have selected a large font size you can easily double (and more) the size of a screen to accommodate the larger captions and fields.

On the other hand, a screen which has numerous data fields or wide list boxes is naturally large.
They cant be enlarged in the same proportions to accommodate very large font sizes.

The Bank Genie solution:
On naturally large screens, we have provided a Font button.
Example: You can see the Font button in this Screenshot - The initial screen in the program Manage Transactions BS421)
Clicking that Font button leads to screen BS100S05
Referring to Screenshot 1 and Screenshot2
In that screen you can select a smaller font size for that screen only.
This feature allows you to use a larger font size in other screens according to your global settings.
